Complex Dark Ale
Our Prototype Challenge sees us pit three new trial beers against each other. This Black Rye IPA combines two spins on an American IPA, in the left-right jab combo of extra ingredients.
Malt: Pale Ale (4.08 kilograms) Malt: Rye (0.36 kilograms) Malt: Light Crystal (0.18 kilograms) Malt: Chocolate Wheat (0.24 kilograms) Malt: Carafa Special Malt Type 3 (0.18 kilograms) Hops: Simcoe (24 grams) - 90 Bittering Hops: Chinook (20 grams) - 30 Flavour Hops: Centennial (20 grams) - 0 Aroma Hops: Simcoe (20 grams) - 0 Aroma Hops: Citra (150 grams) - Dry Hop Aroma Hops: Chinook (50 grams) - Dry Hop Aroma Yeast: Wyeast 1272 - American Ale II™

If you want the colour but less of the flavour of the dark malts, try substituting the Carafa Special III for a dehusked version of Carafa.
